I recently (November 2009) volunteered to become a Yacas developer. However, the lead developer (Ayal Pinkus) does not reply to emails. None of the people whom I contacted on the list of maintainers were currently active. None could help me. The most helpful reply I received stated "As far as I know Ayal has a lot to do at work and can not focus on yacas. And I don't know if he will in the near future."
Yacas source code downloaded from the Yacas site will not compile with the latest version of the GCC compiler (v4.3) due to GCC streamlining of header dependencies. The source code provided by the Ubuntu repository does compile; presumable because it has been modified by the Ubuntu team.
