The Symbian platform is open source software based on Symbian OS; the most widely used open operating system for mobile phones. The OS has been integrated with software assets contributed by Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, and Sony Ericsson, including the S60 and MOAP(S) user interfaces.
The Symbian Tools provide support for the maintenance and development of the Symbian Platform. The Tools are organised into Packages and include software such as an IDE (eclipse based) and software for building, analysing and distributing the Symbian Platform.
The Symbian Foundation is in the process of making available all the Symbian Tools under an open source license so there is much more to come over the next few months.
