I love coding in text editors. Notepad++ is a very responsive (no delay), tabbed text editor which runs solidly with virtually any input. I've opened hundreds of files at once, opened text files that are over a gig in size, etc., and Notepad++ always handles it.
The program even has customizable macros which you can bind to keyboard-shortcuts to perform repetitive tasks (like a default header for a file of a certain type, or a really common loop you use). These become awesomely useful. I have macros for several languages where I just type the name of a function then hit my macro key and it turns that name into a basic function stub.
I've used this project for several years now to write millions of lines of code (primarily PHP). The thing almost never crashes and clearly has no memory leaks.
Mad props guys. This is probably my favorite application ever written.
Yeah its good really good, earlier versions used to be bit buggy but now since ver. 5 start up speed is gone down but stability has gone up. For huge code the opening time has also gone up so 4/5 from me.
I like it so much I use wine to run it in Linux...
It is fast, stable, loaded with features, and comes out of the box with tons of support for different languages (and appropriate syntax highlighting).
I especially love the tabs and the hex-edit plugin.
Seriously guys, make a Linux version.
This is the best & most powerful file editor yet! I've recommended it to all my programmer friends and I'll still do.
It is far the only competitor for the paid UltraStudio from IDM.
Keep it up guys!
A really big fan,
Ciprian M.
With the newly (6.0+) added full-fledged perl-compatible regex support, there is no more reason to look for another tool. It copes with 1GB+ large files and it's fast and, last but not least, it's easy to use. All in all: a really great tool I (love to) use every day.
This is currently my favorite text editor. I like it even better than EditPlus. My favorite part is all of the special purpose plugins that contributors have developed. I use it for C programming and maintaining log files. It has a neat code folding capability and of course performs color coding of keywords for many programming languages.
