Project Summary

The Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit (MITK) is a free software library with the aim of simplifying the development of interactive medical image processing programs. Through enhanced combinability and reusability of interactive components as well as the avoidance of redundant developments, an improved level of software quality is achieved with less time required for development.

MITK is based on the toolkits ITK and VTK, reusing not only their libraries but also the design principles realized in them as well. The aim is to not invent anything that already exists and only to add any given functionality that is required for interactive medical image processing systems and that is not included in the scope defined for the basic toolkit.
