KNIME is easy to use and easy to extend for data mining. It has a lot of tools integrated, even eclipse BIRT for reporting. It provides wide range of nodes from the multiple sources. (Chemistry to text processing with various visualization options.)
The code location though seems like the code location for the community contributions, so these statistics measure only those projects, not KNIME itself.
KNIME is a very easy package to use and it's quite powerful too. Many complex analyses can be completed by using its workflow interface. If you find something it can't do, you can put in a node to call routines in R or Python, then pass the results back to KNIME and continue your analysis. It can also integrate all the nodes from RapidMiner & I don't think the reverse is true.
