Koda has been working hard to port the game to mobile platforms. so in the following months Tiyuri is likely to post news and videos about the new exciting features that are waiting for you in 0.9.12 however now i wanted to write something about more technical that I believe is important to know. We deprecated ... [More] SDL_mixer and switched to OpenAL. Why this change? Well SDL_mixer is quite a buggy library in the first place and it has not been mantained as well as the other SDL libraries. Ultimately SDL_mixer was causing many problems with Pulseaudio under Linux and as last straw was preventing us from enabling audio under iPhone. Why OpenAL? Simply put, it is a modern, truly cross platform library that handles audio streaming and 3D effects! It is exactly what we were looking for! Full support for all operating systems as well as modern embedded devices! What will change? For the end user at the moment not much, besides smoother fade in and fade out and less compatibility problems; but for us developer OpenAL opens a new world for handling audio throughout the game! Something that's been bothering me for a while has been the airstrike graphics.. They weren't actually drawn by me, and didn't really fit the rest of the drawings. Also.. it's just way too small, how would you fit a hog in that tiny jet? So I redrew it.... Do you like it?

Let me first clarify that the blog posts across the internet claiming that an iPhone version is "near completion" are nowhere near the truth! In fact the idea of porting the game originally started one year ago, but was soon dismissed because of ... [More] lack of manpower/equipment. Everything remained silent until i joined development and i was proposed to resume developing the iPhone version; i was shocked by this because i never did anything with the iPhone and my SDL/Pascal was (and still is) very limited! However i received so much help by unC0Rr, nemo, tiy and many other people at #hedgewars that all together we managed to pull something off! With a lot of patience and trial&error, here's what we've got so far:   What we're showing now is a very BASIC demo, running in the iPhone simulator! The code compiles fine and graphics too, but there is still no support for audio and no way to control the game. This is where current development is at the moment, but now you can rest assured that you'll see one iPhone version of your favourite game in the future!!! [Less]
