Weee, that first tournament round is finally complete. Well, mostly complete.
I didn't hear from jackyf, LnxTx, macgeek417, Anima, nickylew and michael so I have no choice but to kick all of them. Hopefully, this next round will be more successfull!
What else happened in the first round? Since a lot of players had issues getting their matches sorted we did extended it by one week and most of them had their matches these last few days.
We have two team changes which i allowed as exceptions. First, mr. a will play with Tonio from now on since Mr. Capslock was unresponsive. Secondly, GMLudo teamed up with schischa since Jordan couldn't be found for their match.
Accordingly, the upcoming matches are:
RM's WienerWürstchen & MM's Wienerwürstchen
vs.
MadT & jessor
artart78 & MKK-Bote
vs.
claymore & pterodaktill
BHW0011 & Hedgeking
vs.
Tiyuri & Firefox
Kaan & dctPL
vs.
Thomas1 & Stukr
schischa & GMLudo
vs.
mr. a & Tonio
llapingachos & pschyrum as well as O00 & slash will have to sit this one out :\

Right now I'm trying to make the game more newbie friendly. So far most weapons - especially those unique to Hedgewars - are quite just "trial & error" for new players. And still it can be hard to figure out all tweaks and possibilities. I guess

the RC plane, it's bombs and the "Ride of the Valkyries" are a good example for this.
One step to make Hedgewars more accessible to new players should be the tooltip system shown in the following video. This is still work in progress (and might be included or dropped later on). Once a weapon is picked (ammo menu or shortcut) the game offers you a quick overview about the different, weapon specific controls available.
Once you're experienced enough or if you don't want to see them, you can disable those tooltips in the options menu. [Less]

Wohoo, thanks for signing up folks! This is going to be fun.
Here's the ladder.
Livestream
Please subscribe to our twitter account http://twitter.com/hedgewars to get early announcements of upcoming streams which are going to be available on this
... [More]
page.
So how is this going to work? All players, please read on carefully.
Forum
There's a special forum category where only you can join. Please post your announcements there.
General Rules
Each player must use his login (same password as on the website).
A party must consist of two players and two teams.
Each team will have two hedgehogs, so it will be 4 hedgehogs per side.
AI teams are forbidden.
Players must use the same teams all the way through the tournament.
Each round consists of 3 matches against the opponent, the party which wins 2 times first moves to the next round.
Demos & Disruptions
When a match is finished, players must announce the winners in the tournament forum.
Demos must be saved and uploaded for each match.
Matches not played within the week schedule will be subject to review. If one or both parties are found to be responsible for the match not being played, that player/players will be knocked out of the tournament.
If a network problem occurs whilst both parties have more than 3 hogs the match will be replayed.
If a network problem occurs when one party has less than 3 hogs, the party with the most hogs at the time is declared the winner.
If a network problem occurs when both parties have the same hog count (but less than 4), the party with the most combined hp will win.
When you play your matches and you feel like someone did a nice turn or kill, please note the time and tell us in the announcement thread. We're planning on doing a fragmovie with a best of compilation (:
Schedule
Every game in a particular round must be played within the week scheduled for that round.
Organising when a match is played within the week scheduled is down to the players.
I propose using http://doodle.com/ to find the perfect date and time for your matches. It's quite easy to use (no signup needed). Nevertheless, you should check your PM Inbox and the tournament forums on hedgewars.org regularily.
Game scheme & weapon sets
Rounds #1, #3 and the finals will be played using default game scheme and weapon set.
Round #2 will be played with Pro Mode game scheme and Pro Mode weapon set.
Round #4 will be played with a special config (Artillery+Pro Mode) which I will post later.
Round #1, #2, #3, and #4 will take place on a randomly generated, medium-sized map.
The finals will take place on a uservoted map, more on that in the tournament forums.
Finally, we can and will assist you as much as we can. E.g. we can setup game rooms and rules for you or supply TeamSpeak servers if you feel like it. Just get in touch, preferrably via IRC.

Adding some new old sounds not used yet... Any opinions and/or suggestions?
You can find existing voicepack sounds in ogg format within "/share/hedgewars/Data/Sounds/voices/Default". Get creative!

I've had a few people tell me through email, through the forums and through IRC that the rope in Hedgewars is "useless" , "weak", "pointless" and so on.
I was going to record a video for these people, to show them that not only is the Rope useful

, but it's the most powerful weapon in the game.
Thankfully however, ♫ DJ. LisT ♫ has done this for me
Congrats on your skillz guys, I might have to take you on some day.
Expect more challenging shoppa maps soon :) [Less]

Hey! Don't wonder about this blog entry's headline! This is my first post here and I thought I might be a little bit more creative. But, hey, let's get on-topic! This is a small bugfix/test release that should fix the texture bugs on some ATI cards

0.9.12 Released
well folks, 0.9.12 is finally here.
Grab it on our downloads page here
This release doesn't include everything we had planned, and some noteable things are missing. But we decided to push forwards the release due to Hedgewars being
... [More]
included on a coverdisk on a big computer magazine.
That said, there is an awful lot new in 0.9.12, I won't list everything, (you can always review SVN activity for a complete changelog) but the main features are as follows.
+ Control pad support
+ New weapons: flying saucer, molotov cocktail
+ More sounds
+ New visual effects
+ Updated graphics
+ Team chat
+ Remember net password
+ More training modes, including a fun RC plane game
+ Implement room control delegation when host's connection fails
+ Colorize chat events in engine
+ Frontend improvements
+ New maps
+ New theme
+ and more :)
+Zoom - This is one of the biggest features in the new release, you can now dynamically zoom in and out of the battlefield using (by default) the mousewheel.
If you have any teams from previous versions of the game you may need to update their controls to apply zoom settings.
Middle mouse resets your zoom by default.
* Fix crash in replay caused by speechbubbles
* Fix some desync causes
* Fix rope bugs
* Fix bugs in weapon selection code
We want to thank everyone who helped out with 0.9.12, the community (as usual) has been great. We hope you enjoy the release, send it to your friends, your family, your wife, your bit on the side, everyone! And we look forwards to seeing you on the server.
Let us know what you think of the release on our forums
And just to let you know we now have a twitter and facebook page,
so sign up and let the word spread! :)
