As a multi-site church with thousands of members, we evaluated many alternatives in our search for a management system that could provide a long-term solution for our needs. We chose Rock from a long list of candidates because it delivers in a number of key areas.
Data Security and Ownership:
With the option to host on-premises, Rock gives us complete control over the information which is critical to our daily business operations.
Cross-Platform Availability:
We need to support a variety of devices across our staff and congregation, and Rock utilizes technologies such as Bootstrap to provide a responsive interface suitable for any size screen on any browser-capable device.
Power and Extensibility:
Rock offers many great features and advanced configuration options out of the box, and also supports a robust plug-in architecture that has enabled us to develop additional fully-integrated features tailored specifically to our needs.
Interoperability:
Like many large organisations, we rely on a number of different systems to implement various specialized business functions. Rock has export/merge capabilities and a full-featured REST API that provides the ability to exchange data with these external systems in a secure manner.
Scalability:
Rock is built on a distributed architecture that allows us to scale our system over time to meet the growing demands of the organisation.
Cost-Effectiveness:
Rock is free - enough said!
Support:
The Rock website offers a comprehensive set of resources including community forums, training resources, and even a sandbox demo of the product. The community is active and helpful, and the documentation and training material is of a very high standard. My personal experience as a contributor to this project has been overwhelmingly positive - the community support offered to new users and budding contributors is outstanding, with plenty of members both willing and able to lend a hand.
In my opinion, the RockRMS project really delivers on the promise of open-source software by harnessing the power of a like-minded community to deliver an excellent product. Rock has provided our church with a solid foundation for our long-term information management strategy, and has certainly helped us to be more effective in our mission.
