The aim of the development of Kitodo is a stable development and user community for digital libraries and archives. This is why the Kitodo community is pursuing an open source strategy:
* Kitodo is open source software, so anyone can view the source code and adapt it to his (or other) needs.
* Each Kitodo user has different resources, experiences and competences that can benefit the overall project.
* By releasing such developments, the whole community profits from every investment made in Kitodo.
* If their own development capacities and financial resources are not sufficient for the realization of a requirement, developmental wishes can be realized jointly - whether through a co-operative development or joint commissioning of a service provider.
