God, remember when we all used telnet and FTP and rsh? Remember when ssh was a proprietary app and there were all these incompatibility problems and you had to worry if a server was running ssh1 or ssh2 and which your client understood and all that?
And then OpenSSH comes along, fixes up the open source ssh implementation and now secure communications are a ubiquitous no-brainer. There's no excuse to use telnet or rsh anymore.
