First, let's speak of proprietary or closed-source instead of commercial, since as Lennart pointed out, there is free software that has commercial success, like OTRS, several SQL packages, Linux
Hm, this should be pretty simple, if you don't mind using Ruby's eval (for applying those regexps) in a web application like this and cause a lot of backdoors with that. :-)
