While Steffen Mueller (@tsee) says that creating XS accessors is not as easy, it now is - while #autoxs does not necessarily provide a big speedup, it is a very fine implementation example.

And it shows how perl can enhanced by XS in a way "unobtrusive Javascript" enhances HTML: It speeds up perl programs without the need of changing code. A simple -MAutoXS on the command line is enough.
