Gravatar sometimes is down, every time is slow and this is a navigation painful experience.

I am also wondering if using a third party service for avatars is good. First, I wonder what Gravatar has to gain from partnership with other sites (except network traffic bills)? Don't you wonder that they might be in some kind of data mining operation? Does Ohloh want to be a part of it?
On the other hand, I believe that Gravatar is a nice idea -- it's painful to maintain consistent avatars across the web. And you're welcome to block Gravatar's domain in your browser's settings. (Adblock is a nice plugin for Firefox/Iceweasel, Opera has it built in, ...)
