"This name is already claimed"

I am working on the same project, using the same committer name, but at a different organization -- when I try to add this in my profile, I get the error message This name is already claimed by 'Johann Petrak'. which is my name.
How is this supposed to work? How can I add a change of organization without a change of project or committer name?

Hi Johann,

If you don't mind combining the work into one virtual person, we have a feature for that called aliases. It's available from the project sidebar (on the left side of a project menu).

For project gate, the alias url is: https://www.ohloh.net/p/gate/aliases

Let me know if this isn't what you want or my explanation is confusing.

Thanks

OK, I am confused :)
The problem is not that I have commited to GATE under two different commiter names -- on the contrary.
I have commited to gate under the same name - johannp - while I was at two different organizations. The system does NOT allow me to do that though. When I try to define myself as a comitter to GATE under the second organization using my committer name johannp, the system produces the error message This name is already claimed by 'Johann Petrak'.
However, this is NOT an error since I am johann Petrak and johann_p is the comitter name that correctly is mapped to my name.

I think I understand: The work you did from Oct 2006 to May 2009 was for one group and subsequent (or earlier) work for another group. And like it might appear on a CV/resume, you'd like this to appear as two separate entries on your account.

Is that right? If so, unfortunately, we only allow people to make a single position for a project. Then we map all their aliased contributor names to that one position with the aliases feature. Allowing what you want makes sense but its just not a feature we have.

Thanks for sticking with me while I try to understand,

-Andy

OK I see. That is a bit unfortunate though as it might be quite common that people work for the same opensource projects while getting paid by or being working for different organizations. I think that would be a very useful feature to include and quite frankly, what is possible now simply makes it necessary to provide information in a way that is simply not correct or factual.
