Changed enlistments, but now I can't change contributors

I setup a previous enlistment in Subversion and added myself as a contributor on the Qublog project. When I try to add myself as a contributor in the new project, I get a screen like this:

If I click submit, I get this error here:

Hi Andrew,

I think I know what is going on here. Correct me if I get the facts wrong; I'm trying not to make this any more confusing than it already is.

Your Ohloh account is associated with a committer name from the old Subversion repository. However, you've deleted that Subversion repository from Ohloh, and replaced it with a new Git repository which uses a different committer name.

So now your Ohloh account is associated with a committer name that doesn't exist, and the Aliases UI doesn't work.

What you need to do to fix this is change the committer name that your Ohloh account is using. You can do this from your account page, not from the project aliases UI. On your account home page, there should be a small Edit link in the Experience section, next to the Qublog listing. This link will take you to an edit form where you can change from the old Subversion committer name to the new Git author name.

It will probably take a full pass through the Ohloh report update loop for all of the changes to take effect, so have patience.

If this is incorrect or unhelpful let me know, and I'll dig into it. Sorry the UI is so confusing for all of this....

Thanks,
Robin

You did it. Though, I have no idea what the alias UI is. I'd never seen that before. What I expected to happen in this process is one of the following:

  1. The original Qublog Position would be modified when the original enlistment was deleted (or at some point when Ohloh had the opportunity to note the enlistment/usrname was gone/invalid) so that I was no listed as None / I don't want to say.

  2. OR I would expect the I Am This Person button to have allowed me to update the Qublog Position record to the correct username since the old name was invalid.

A possible third option would be to just show an error message explaining the problem, but if you do that it seems like you could just go ahead and do option (2) while you're at it.

Yes, I would think that both (i) and (ii) would be true. This is an ongoing annoyance for a lot of people; I'd really like to find some time to work on this.

Understood. I appreciate the help.
