Hello!
I am contributor of a project and would like to link the contributor information of that project with my user account, but I can't find the button to do that. Can someone guide me there, please?
Thanks,
DevUrandom
Greetings DevUrandom,
Timely request! You can't claim
being a developer yet - but we're in the middle of writing this feature. Our plan is to let Ohloh users identify themselves as developers on projects and then show aggregated statistics on their total
contributions - possibly spanning multiple projects. We are also planning on throwing in some minimal social
features too. Let us know if you have any specific requests or concerns.
So time has passed; where's the feature?
Actually: I think it was enabled for a while (I vaguely recall claiming several instances of me,
and my account summarizes three), but I missed one, and I can't figure out how to claim the fourth. I don't recall how I did it before, but I don't recall it was very hard ... did the button disappear or something?
hi jackr,
The feature's still here. Perhaps you weren't logged in when you tried finding the button? Otherwise, find the contributor page matching who you want to claim and hit I am this person!
in the top right.
Weirdly, the button's not there!
Actually, Ohloh offers me the oppotunity to become guido van rossum, so I guess the feature's still there all right -- but I Am Not Worthy
of that honor! ;-) But when I go to the contributor page for jrepenning,
no button. (Strictly, that's a member
page, I guess ... does that matter?)
I was doing this with some friends (Subversion committers) last week, and we never managed to spot that button.
hi Jackr,
I'm trying to understand exactly what you mean. We have an account on ohloh currently called 'jrepenning'. However, I suspect what you mean is that you want to claim the subversion contributor named 'jrepenning'. Is that correct?
It seems like you have already claimed it. I see it on your account profile page. This could explain why you can't see anything on that committer page. Can you validate or correct my understanding?
Btw - I know our UI around this feature is still confusing. Any concrete suggestions (from anyone!) on how to improve it would be greatly appreciated!
The ohloh account 'jackr' and the ohloh account 'jrepenning' are both me.
I have claimed
all my contributer accounts I can find, all gathered into ohloh account 'jackr'.
However, in various displays (mostly searches) I occasionally see that ohloh account 'jrepenning'. I would like to claim
it as well (e.g., so if someone kudos it, I get the glory). Or maybe, now that I've thought through the distinction between ohloh accounts and contribugers, I just want to nuke 'jrepenning.' Anyway, as UI feedback: the presence of 'jrepenning' in various lists, along side things like jackrepenning (scplugin)
, made me want to claim
it, but I couldn't figger out how, nor did it occur to me that an ohloh account might be a distinct object type from a contributer.
Ah - ok - I think I understand.
An account can only claim 'contributions' - that is, a committer on a project. In your case, you seem to want to claim a different Ohloh account. This isn't possible. Since the jrepenning accounts seems empty (ie: no kudos or claims), would you like me to simply delete it instead?
