This search http://www.ohloh.net/accounts/search?q=tim+bunce&x=0&y=0 shows two Tim Bunce
s. They are both me.
One is my account http://www.ohloh.net/accounts/4675 with several associated projects.
The other is http://www.ohloh.net/projects/4515/contributors/51884 and relates only to Perl.
So I click on http://www.ohloh.net/projects/4515/contributors/51884 and then I am this person
.
I get a message saying You already have a position on this project. Ohloh supports only one position per project. Edit the aliases table instead.
If I already have a position on this project, why were two Tim Bunce
s shown in the search results? Shouldn't they have been merged?
As far as I can tell, Add a New Alias
doesn't address the underlying problem here.
(Could the problem be related to the fact that http://www.ohloh.net/projects/4515/contributors/51884 has been given Kudos?)
Can someone enlighten me?
Did they by some chance have different email addresses?
Hi Tim,
Sorry, but you've been bitten by a design flaw in our system.
It looks like Perl switched from Subversion to Git, and your committer name
changed along with it.
The problem is that your Ohloh account is still hanging on to your old Subversion name, but because the Subversion code has been removed from Ohloh, there's no visible UI to remove or rename that old claim.
Here's how to work around this problem.
On the bottom part of your account page, there's an Experience listing for Perl which is empty (because the Subversion code it points to has disappeared). Click the Edit
link next to that listing, then click the Delete Position
button.
That will release the old name claim. Now you can go to http://www.ohloh.net/projects/4515/contributors/51884, and you should be able to click the I am this person
button.
Sorry for the mess. We know this part of our feature set has some room for improvement.
Robin
That worked fine. Thanks Robin!
