Give information about next scheduled...

Give information about next scheduled update. It would be cool if a page like http://www.ohloh.net/projects/10879/enlistments could also tell when the code will be updated the next time.

This is a pretty frequently requested feature, and I wish there was some way we could tell you.

We have a hard-to-find status page that gives some explanation about how scheduling works, and why it's so hard to predict an individual download. Also, it has a graph that gives you some idea how far behind our updates are running.

We're always battling to keep an ever-increasing number of servers chugging, but given how variable our server loads are from day to day, the tendency of things to go wrong unexpectedly, it's very hard to predict the next update.

Well, I think it would already help if we knew the average position within the queues (most people anticipating an update can estimate the time of the update by that information).

As much as I would like to see a good estimation of when a particular project is going to be updated next time I have to admit that a queue position is not remotely more helpful than the status page. In this case having two or three queue positions, not to speak of an average queue position, is not going to be any remedy at all.

Maybe you could start working towards more information on this subject by providing a link to the status page on the enlistment screen.

Another step could be to dynamically generate the update picture depending on the project somebody came in from and highlight the day of that particular project. It is not easy to count the bars and memorize all the dates from the projects you are interested in.

Just basic thoughts I've had on this, though not yet a solution. Because in the end: users will ALWAYS want this feature. :)
