Xfce (Core) Xfce (Core)

Notes:
A good developer's desktop. Not as shiny as some of the others and sometimes feels like I've traveled back in time. That said, it is light, fast, stable... and doesn't get in my way.
GNU Emacs GNU Emacs

Notes:
The original operating system in an editor! :-) It can do anything you want it to... and is the model that other editors take their new features from.
Linux Kernel Linux Kernel

Notes:
Solid, mature, reliable... generally you don't have to remember that it is there!
Bash Bash

Notes:
A good solid, feature-rich shell for interactive use. I try to avoid writing bash-specific scripts, though... they should be written in POSIX shell when possible!
Debian Debian

Notes:
Debian testing is a great platform for an experienced developer's desktop. My Mum runs it too... ;-)
Mozilla Firefox Mozilla Firefox

Notes:
I'm a long time user of Firefox (stability, features, plugins). When Firefox started using too much memory I looked at other options but decided to stick with Firefox.

Notes:
A convenient way of finding all manner of things (applications, hosts to SSH to, ...) from the keyboard. Works well with XFCE.
