Hi all,
After a lengthy release cycle, we now have a new stable release. It took slightly longer than initially planned for but it's finally there: Warzone 2100 2.1.
This release adds very little to RC 2. This is intended because RC stands for
... [More]
release candidate and thus is intended to become the release itself.
The short list (so short that it isn't even a real list) of changes since RC 2:
Fix a bug that caused the number of assigned units to a structure to be displayed wrongly (ticket:90)
For the full list of changes, see the change log.
Known Issues
The known issues from RC 2 remain. In addition we now know of an additional issue, which is the first one in the following list.
The full list of known issues:
Switching languages through the menu, on Mac OSX can cause crashes (ticket:170).
Save games from the 2.0 series can not be loaded with this version. (NOTE: We do not intend to "fix" this, as we are breaking compatibility with the previous save game format.)
The multi player code has been improved since beta 2, but running out of sync is still possible.
The game in general still aborts quite often in debug builds due to failed assertions.
Save games from 2.1 beta 4 (that, and only that version), can not be loaded with this version. (NOTE: We cannot fix this because the beta 4 save games miss information we need.)
Download
The source code and all available binaries can be found, as usual, at the download page.
Best regards,
The Warzone 2100 Resurrection Project

Hi there,
we made another small step torward the next stable release: The second release candidate of the 2.1 series.
The release candidate 2 recieved the following changes:
Updated Italian (100%), Portugues (99.96%) and Russian (46%) translations
... [More]
Crash when translations for player colour names where larger than the string buffer allocated for them (12 bytes) (r6283)
Allow a droid to pick a new target while auto-repairing. (ticket:35, bug #12217)
More out-of-sync issues fixed (r6230)
Note: Due to the changes on the net code, the release candidate 2 is not compatible with older versions in multi player!
Known Issues
The known issues from RC1 remain.
The full list of known issues:
Save games from the 2.0 series can not be loaded with this version. (NOTE: We do not intend to "fix" this, as we are breaking compatibility with the previous save game format.)

Hi Folks,
Allow me to introduce you to our first release candidate for 2.1: Warzone 2100 2.1 RC 1.
This release brings one new "feature" (not a feature really): the original sound tracks! Aside from that we have the usual bug fixes. With this
... [More]
release candidate we bring you:
Don't terminate on a bad/corrupted save game, instead reload the main menu.
Add the original sound track.
Force software "accelerated" OpenAL for Windows XP users to prevent audio "clogging" issues (ticket:115).
When new games are created in the lobby make sure to remove the "NO GAMES ARE AVAILABLE" message (bug #12399).
Prevent the "return" key from being mistaken for enabling chat mode if it has just been pressed to save a game (r6132, r6191)
Disable multi turret support.
Fix the laser satellite such that it does hit droids correctly.
Verify the versions of pkg-config, xgettext and msgfmt in the configure script instead of autogen.sh.
We also have several (other) bug fixes. For the full list of changes, see the change log.
Known Issues
The known issues from beta 5 remain.
The full list of known issues:
Save games from the 2.0 series can not be loaded with this version. (NOTE: We do not intend to "fix" this, as we are breaking compatibility with the previous save game format.)
The multi player code has been improved since beta 2, but running out of sync is still possible.
The game in general still aborts a lot in debug builds due to failed assertions.
Save games from 2.1 beta 4 (that, and only that version), can not be loaded with this version. (NOTE: We cannot fix this because the beta 4 save games miss information we need.)

Ladies and Gentleman,
We would like to introduce you to our latest release: Warzone 2100 2.1 beta 5.
This release doesn't bring anything really new, except for the usual bug fixes, and the addition of a mod. This is mainly due to the fact that 2.1
... [More]
is currently approaching super stableness. With beta 5 we bring you:
the New Team War (NTW) mod by Delphino got included.
Healthy droids should no longer smoke (bad for your health...).
Reordering of the main menu: Skirmish is now moved to Single Player where it belongs.
Fix the path finding of droids, which got broken in beta 4.
We also have several (other) bug fixes. For the full list of changes, see the change log.
Known Issues
The known issues from beta 4 remain. In addition to these issues, due to the way how beta 4 broke path finding, save games made with beta 4 can not be loaded by beta 5 and any subsequent 2.1 releases. Note, however, that the current development trunk (which will become 2.2 eventually) is still capable of loading save games from both 2.1 beta 4 and 2.1 beta 5.
Download

Hey guys!
Two days ago, a group of trolls - hidden in an update package for libc6 - perfidious conquered our server. After a bloody slaughter on the great hill of despair, we where finally able to reconquer our server by unleashing the massive power

of apt-get, nano and dpkg! We'll celebrate this great triumph by summoning 2 new releases very soon!

Hi folks,
Since a couple of minutes ago, we have finished the release process for the 4th beta of 2.1: 2.1_beta4. "Beta 4?" you might ask. Yes this beta is labeled beta 4. Because we started a release cycle for beta 3 some months ago, but found out
... [More]
(luckily in time) that it contained too many bugs to be released. But since we had already tagged beta 3, we wish to prevent confusion arising from two versions of Warzone with the same version number. Hence beta 4.
A source tarball and Windows installers (debug installer) are available. MacOS X and GNU/Linux binaries will follow soon. Some of the new features this version introduces:
Coloured mouse cursors (in game only, not in menus). Turned off by default since it can cause problems on some systems.
"Map Preview" button added to the multi player/skirmish lobby, including ability to preview starting positions.
A 'Ready' button that all players must press in order to start a multi player game.
Support changing the language via the options menu.
Units gain speed increase with experience.
We also have a large amount of bug fixes. You can find the full list of changes in the change log.
Known Issues
The known issues from beta 2 remain:
Save games from the 2.0 series can not be loaded with this version. (NOTE: We do not intend to "fix" this, as we are breaking compatibility with the previous save game format.)
The multi player code has been improved severely since beta 2, but running out of sync is still possible. Though it barely happens anymore, and the differences tend to be significantly smaller.
The game in general still aborts a lot in debug builds due to failed assertions.
Download
The source code and all available binaries can be found -as usual- at the download page.
More Good News
Some other great news is that we have finally received permission to distribute the FMVs and the original sound track under the terms and conditions of the GPL. We have also been confirmed in our assumption to use these works, and the rest of the source code and data, under the conditions of the GPL version 2, or at your option any later version. We now have an updated readme and if you're interested you can also read up on some history about the new licensing conditions.
For this we have to thank “Jaywalker” (alias Jason W.) at Eidos, several involved members of our community and surely a lot more people at Eidos and Pivotal Games.
So again, thanks to all involved people! This may just be, after the original open source release, the most significant step for Warzone's future.
Some Sad News
Then lastly, some sad news, which we received several days ago: Pivotal Games will be closed. Some of you may know, that Pivotal Games is the successor of Pumpkin Studios, which are the original creators of Warzone 2100.
So I wish to take this opportunity to wish all guys and gals from Pivotal Games the best for the future! As long as Warzone 2100 survives, it will stand as a testament to you're ability to create great games!
Best regards, The Warzone 2100 Resurrection Project

Hi,
since a few hours the website should be fully back online again, with some major and minor changes, here is a quick overview about what has been done:
The whole website got a new theme base, which is a bit bland until now, but this will change
... [More]
over time. If you have some suggestions, you're welcome ;)
The forums software has been changed to the phpBB3 due to some reasons. All user accounts, posts, topics, attachments and avatars have been converted as well, so you should be able to login in our forums as usual with your old password. By the way, we highly recommend to check the preferences in your accounts settings and correct them when necessary!
Due to the forums-software-change, you aren't automatically logged into our wiki anymore, when you're logged into our forums. This is now a separate login process, but with the same data as your forums account!
In future, newsletters won't be send through our forums anymore. This means, when you're registered in our community, you won't automatically receive announcements by mail anymore, except for community related things. If you want to be informed about new releases, you can sign up for our new newsletter service which will be low-traffic. Means: Only "important" news like new releases.
Well, these are the most mentionable changes. There are also some changes "under the hood" but that's another topic...
If you encounter some errors or problems with our website, please report -as usual- in our Website-Feedback forum. Suggestions and requests are also welcome!
Last but not least, sorry that it did took that long, but better late than never! Or? :)

Ladies and Gentlemen,
may I introduce to you the marvelous Warzone 2100 version 2.1 beta 2!
This time we bring you:
Translations to various languages: german (95% complete), italian (35%), french (25%), dansk (13%), dutch (11%) and russian (9%)
Font
... [More]
issues fixed
New menu backdrops
Some visual and performance improvements
And of course the usual bugfixes... Of course you can find the full list of changes in the ChangeLog.
Distributors should note that Warzone 2100 will work with QuesoGLC 0.6 and higher, but not with 0.7.0. This is because that version contains an incompatibility to some graphics drivers which was fixed in 0.7.1.
known issues
Most from beta 1 persist:
Savegames from the 2.0 series can not be loaded with this version.
The multiplayer code has become a lot more stable than it was, but running out of sync still happens. Though it now happens less often and the sync differences are smaller.
The game in general still aborts a lot in debug builds due to failed assertions.
DownloadYou can find Windows binaries and the sourcecode in our downloads section.
UPDATE1:Distributors are advised to include this patch which fixes the encoding for non UTF-8 locales, so translated strings can be rendered by QuesoGLC.
UPDATE2:Windows users on non-english systems should get the revised version of the beta 2, which fixes the problem with missing strings. (bug #11277)
