Release 0.7.10 of nss-pam-ldapd has just been made available which fixes
a bug that prevented fail-over to the second LDAP server in certain
circumstances. This should be a reasonably stable and well tested
release.
A summary of the changes since
... [More]
0.7.9:
* handle errors from ldap_result() better and disconnect (and reconnect)
in more cases
More information on this release can be found at:
http://arthurdejong.org/nss-pam-ldapd/news.html#20100924
Note that the 0.7 series is in maintenance mode and will receive
bugfixes and security support but new features are developed for a 0.8
release.

Release 0.7.9 of nss-pam-ldapd has just been made available which
includes some small improvements. This should be a reasonably stable and
well tested release.
A summary of the changes since 0.7.8:
* fix for --with-nss-ldap-soname configure option
... [More]
by Julien Cristau
* Debian packaging improvements
More information on this release can be found at:
http://arthurdejong.org/nss-pam-ldapd/news.html#20100818
With this release the 0.7 series will be in bugfixes-only mode. It will
still receive bugfixes and security support for some time but not any
major new features.
This allows for some more elbow room to introduce some new features in
the 0.8 series. A few interesting features that may make it in are:
* an experimental Python implementation of nslcd (a very rough
beginning is available)
* perhaps integrate the FreeBSD code, maybe work on Solaris (Illumos)
support
* nested groups
* rootpwmodpw option (see mailing list archives)
* more autodetection and SASL configuration of the Debian package
* implement other services in nslcd: sudo and autofs are candidates
* perhaps rework PAM nslcd protocol to have cleaner support for
currently used functionality
* have a logging framework to more clearly log invalid entries without
flooding the logs
If you are interested in any of these features or have some important
ones to add please drop a note on the nss-pam-ldapd-users mailing list.
Any input and ideas are appreciated, patches even more so. Also, if you
are willing to work on any improvements just drop by on the mailing
list.
