The latest version of OpenMPT has been released today (kind of as a late birthday present for ModPlug Tracker's 15th anniversary :-).
This update brings some novelties regarding instrument plugins as well as other new features, improvements and bug
... [More]
fixes:
Vibrato tracker effects are now also applied to instrument plugins!
Overhauled the portamento logic for instrument plugins to make it more straight-forward to use: By specifying the correct Pitch Wheel Depth actually used by the plugin in the instrument tab, all portamento and vibrato commands will sound identical to their sample counterparts.
Playback can now be locked to an order range. The range can be specified from the context menu of an order selection. Locked orders are then shown with a different background colour.
Added option to the Wave Export dialog to loop a song a given number of times during export.
For visual guidance during editing, non-existing pattern numbers are now greyed out in the order list.
Added shortcuts and other improvements to the Quick Channel Settings dialog.
Randomize Parameters doesn't ask the plugin if a parameter is automatable anymore, as some plugins do not seem to set this property at all.
Rewrote the AMF format loaders (for both DSMI and ASYLUM files) to be more precise.
For a complete list of changes, have a look at the release notes and the full version history.

It's been 15 years to the day when the very first version of ModPlug Tracker was released. "ModPlug Tracker 0.0xa pre-alpha" dates back to September 19, 1997. I wonder if anyone actually still has this version. It's great to see that ModPlug Tracker

(now OpenMPT) is still alive and kicking after 15 years, even though parts of code clearly show their age and need to be rewritten.
So, happy birthday, ModPlug! Let's celebrate this occasion with cake and and music (minus the cake part).

The latest version of OpenMPT has been released today.
This update is mostly a bug fix release which addresses some new issues found in OpenMPT 1.20, but also brings some new features and other improvements. Here is a list of notable changes:
Middle-clicking or Ctrl-right-clicking a channel header opens the new quick channel settings dialog, which can be used to quickly adjust volumem, panning and channel names.
Improved support for AIFF samples (up to 32-Bit PCM and floating point audio as well as little-endian PCM samples) and WAV samples with abitrary bit resolutiosn up to 32-Bit (e.g. 20-Bit).
Effect plugins are now sorted into plugin categories (as reported by the plugins) in the plugin selection dialog. Delete the plugin.cache file in OpenMPT's settings directory to rebuild the plugin cache with categories. Loading a plugin into a module will also update the cache.
The current playback position is now also reported correctly to plugins when jumping around in the order list. Previously, it was always reset to the song start. This enhances support for sequencer plugins like Maschine.
The Korg Wavestation GUI did not work until song was played for the first time since OpenMPT 1.20. This may also fix the GUI of older versions of the Korg M1 plugin.
Suport for AMS (Velvet Studio) modules is finally back (not crashing the tracker this time :). AMS (Extreme's Tracker) support has been improved as well.
The WAV Loader also imports loop points when reading a WAV file as a module.
Improved support for S3M, STM, UMX, MDL and MED modules.
In the Keyboard Settings dialog, shortcuts can now also be found by pressing the sought-after key combination.
Song Length Estimation also takes per-pattern time signatures into account now.
F1 was accidentally hardcoded to opening the help file.
Fixed some small issues with the MIDI Input / Output plugin.
For a complete list of changes, have a look at the release notes and the full version history.
In other news, Inno Setup, the tool that is used to create the OpenMPT installer, has dropped support for Windows 9x in its latest version. The OpenMPT 1.20 installer is still compiled with an older version (and thus with Windows 9x support), but future versions will probably use the lastest version of Inno Setup.
How important is Windows 9x support for you? Please post a comment and tell us your opinion!

Currently we have collected enough donations to run this website for the next two years. This is simply great and far more than expected. It also opens up opportunities to extend the server if necessary. Thanks to all contributors - we love that you love OpenMPT.

I just noticed that an unstable version of the MIDI Input / Output plugin sneaked into the OpenMPT 1.20 release package. The file has been updated about an hour ago, so if you plan to use the MIDI Input / Output plugin and have already downloaded OpenMPT 1.20, you should download the file again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The latest version of OpenMPT has been released today. It has been more than one year since the first release of OpenMPT 1.19, so the list of bugfixes, changes and new features is incredibly long this time. Here is a short compilation of notable
... [More]
changes:
For the first time in years, OpenMPT comes with a manual again!
OpenMPT 1.20 introduces a template system that can be used to quickly access often used plugin, pattern, sample and instrument combinations.
When closing OpenMPT, a single dialog with a list of unsaved files is now shown instead of one message boxes for each modified file.
Crash recovery: When a crash is encountered, OpenMPT will try to save modified documents to a temporary location and close the audio device. The latter can especially help with ASIO drivers that become unusable after a program crash.
MIDI CCs that are being received from an external MIDI device can now be mapped to pattern / sample / instrument editor shortcuts.
The resonant sample filter has been rewritten and sounds pretty much identical to XMPlay's and Impulse Tracker's filter.
Adding and removing channels creates an undo point now instead of clearing the undo log.
Like in Impulse Tracker, it is now possible to show the default sample volume if there is no volume command next to a note.
OpenMPT can now record incoming aftertouch MIDI messages to patterns as either volume commands or MIDI macros.
The new sample tuner can be used to tune samples in the sample editor to a given note.
The MIDI macro system has been rewritten completely and is now even more powerful and (hopefully) 99% compatible with IT's MIDI macros. Some macro letters have been changed / added, see the "macro help" button in the macro settings or the manual for more information.
OpenMPT comes with its own MIDI Input / Output plugin that can be used to route MIDI event from external devices to other plugins or to send MIDI events to your MIDI gear.
Plugins can now route MIDI events to follow-up plugins. This can be useful for LFO, arpeggiator or groove plugins.
Some multi-output plugins like Kontakt (64 channels version) won't crash anymore.
Built-in support for jBridge to provide support for 64-Bit plugins and other plugins that won't load in OpenMPT.
Exception handling for crashed plugins does finally work again, so the overall stability of OpenMPT as a VST host has increased. Note that a few plugins don't seem to like exception handling and might crash now.
This is really just the tip of the iceberg, so for a complete list of changes, have a look at the release notes and the full version history.

As you can see, the openmpt.org front page has changed quite a bit! The new custom theme should be easier and more fun to use.
One of the most notable changes is that the search box now points to the OpenMPT wiki, as there is not much interesting content on the front page that would be useful to search for.

From today, OpenMPT is no longer a free product. Inspired by the success of certain other commercial trackers, the release of OpenMPT 1.20 is a turning point in the history of OpenMPT.
From now on, users no longer have to long for features that are

only available to closed-source software producers such as ReWire - It's all there!
More details about the new license and pricing scheme can be found here.
And don't worry, the free OpenMPT 1.20 will be released really soon. :-) [Less]
