Petr Koupý apparently likes to create HelenOS screencasts during the summer break and we like watching them. Here is his latest one demonstrating the initial basic implementation of HelenOS graphics stack and GUI.

We are very pleased to announce the five GSoC students who will be working on HelenOS projects this summer: Vivek Prakash: Port GNU Compiler Collection (gcc) to HelenOS Sean Bartell: Structured binary data tools Adam Hraška: Resizable, scalable ... [More] , concurrent hash-table Julia G. Medvedeva: UDF file system server Tobias Börtitz: HelenOS as a Genode platform We wish Vivek, Sean, Adam, Julia and Tobias the best luck and are looking forward to all the new exciting contributions they will bring. We would also like to thank the students who suggested their HelenOS project to us, but for some reason could not be accepted. In many cases, the decision to accept one or another student was very tough as we received more high quality proposals than how many we could accommodate. Finally, we are grateful to Google for giving us the impressive number of five student slots this year. We will do our best to make a very good use of them! [Less]

After making a very successful Google Summer of Code debut last year, we are pleased to announce that HelenOS has been accepted as a mentoring organization for 2012 again. In the Google Summer of Code, university and college students work during the ... [More] summer break and contribute code to open source projects represented by the accepted mentoring organizations. During the duration of the program, Google provides stipends to successful students that sum up to $5000 at the end of the program. We suggest that students who take interest in HelenOS visit our list of project ideas and look for inspiration there. Remember that the list merely consists of prefabricated project suggestions. According to Google, some of the most successful proposals from the previous years have been completely new ideas submitted by students, so don't be afraid to take initiative and unleash your imagination. We would like to invite prospective students to demonstrate their abilities and determination to work on a HelenOS project during the Google Summer of Code 2012 by completing a simple HelenOS task before the student application deadline on April 6. The task should involve building the latest mainline and either fixing a simple bug or contributing an improvement over the current HelenOS behavior. [Less]
