The GParted team is proud to announce a well-tested, stable release of
GParted Live.
This release includes another critical bug fix for a potential crash
that might cause loss of data while moving or copying a
... [More]
partition. We
strongly recommend that all users of GParted Live 0.15.0-x and
0.16.0-x upgrade to GParted Live 0.16.1-1 to avoid data loss.
Items of note include:
Avoid another crash in GParted when moving or copying partitions
Based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2013/May/1)
In an effort to ensure the reliability and integrity of this release,
we have conducted over 200 successful tests. These tests included
moves, copies, creates, labels, new UUIDs, growing, shrinking, and
deleting partitions containing each type of file system.
Special thanks goes to Mike Fleetwood, Phillip Susi, and Steven Shiau
for their timely efforts to create this stable release.

Since the release of GParted 0.16.0, we have discovered another
potential issue with timing and multiple threads. This issue appears
to occur on older GNU/Linux distributions. In fact the issue was not
apparent in our
... [More]
testing of GParted 0.16.0 on recent distros.
For more details see Bug 695279 -
GParted doesn't compile on RHEL / CentOS 5.9.
As a precaution we plan to keep GParted Live 0.16.0-1 in the testing
directory while we work towards a fix for this newly identified
issue.
Until this problem is resolved we continue to advise using the last
stable release of GParted Live, which is GParted
Live 0.14.1-6.

We are investigating reports of intermittent crashes with GParted
0.15.0.
See
Bug
697727 - Segfault in livecd Gparted v 0.15.0-3 when copying
partition.
The risk of LOSS of DATA
... [More]
is highest when performing
partition moves, resizes, copies, and checks. As such we recommend
using GParted 0.14.1 for all move, resize, copy, and check
operations.
Other operations such as create, delete, format, label, set UUID, and
delete might also crash, but these should not result in unexpected
data loss, and the operation can be repeated.
Until this problem is resolved we advise using the last stable release
of GParted Live, which
is GParted
Live 0.14.1-6.
We highly recommend that you BACKUP your DATA before
using any partitioning tool.

The big news with this release is the ability to track live updates of
command execution progress. This should help with determining the
status of long running commands by enabling users to see the live
command output
... [More]
in the details section of the apply operations window.
This new ability is implemented by a fundamental code change that
spawns commands to run asynchronously. Also included in this release
are bug fixes and language translation updates.
Key changes include:
Live tracking of command progress output in the details log
Move operations are twice as fast as prior versions
Proper cancel support added
Volume label length now based on file system type
