We are happy to announce the release of Cloudron 4.2!
For those unaware, Cloudron is a platform that makes it easy to run web apps like
WordPress, Nextcloud, GitLab on your server and keep them up-to-date and secure. Think
SaaS for self-hosted apps.
Cloudron 4.2 adds a new UI to configure apps, per-app disk usage graphs, custom data storage directory,
forwarding mails to external domains, & more
New configure UI
The various app settings are now grouped into sections:
We have also reworked the entire app deployment subsystem. Making configuration changes is now faster and
as non-disruptive as possible. For example, changing the labels/tags/icon or modifying the access control groups
results in no downtime and is instantaneous.
Per app disk usage
The graphs view now displays all the disks attached to the server and the disk space used by each
app:
Now that we have precise disk usage information, various operations like install, update & backup, first
check the disk space availability. If disk space is unavailable, the admins are notified.
Custom data directory
Apps on Cloudron store their data and assets in the /home/yellowtent/appsdata/ directory. If the
server is running out of disk space, it is now possible to move the app's storage
directory to another location. For example, you can mount an external disk on the server and move the app's
storage to this new mount point. Many VPS providers allow you to mount an external disk on the server -
DigitalOcean Block Storage, AWS Block Store,
Linode Block Storage to name a few. If you like smartphone analogies,
this is no different than moving an app to the SD Card.
You can move the app to an external location from the Resources section:
Forward to external domains
In previous versions of Cloudron, Email forwarding lists could only contain addresses
internal to Cloudron. With 4.2, forwarding lists can contain external addresses as well.
For implementing this feature, we have added support for Sender Rewriting Scheme
in the Cloudron mail server. SRS and Reverse-SRS is automatically used when required.
SRS is also enabled when a user uses Sieve Redirect to forward their mails to an external domain.
Deactivate users
We have added an option to disable a user. When de-activated, the user will not be able to
login to the Cloudron dashboard. The user will also not be able to login to apps that use
Cloudron Single Sign-On.
Other notable changes
New IP based Restore flow
Wasabi storage backend
Add SparkPost as mail relay backend
Update Haraka to 2.8.24
Login sessions are now persisted across restarts
Add option to skip backup when updating an app
Fix bug where the reverse proxy (nginx) was not reloaded on cert renewal
TOTP tokens are now checked for with +-60 seconds
Fix issue where tar backups with very large files (> 8GB) was corrupt

Hundreds of businesses are using Cloudron for day to day operations. Unexpected downtime of
critical applications can have a severe impact. To help the IT teams of such businesses,
we are introducing a Business plan which has a 1 Day Response Time.
If your company is looking
for even shorter response times and tighter SLAs, please contact us for
custom pricing.
We have also decided to discontinue offering the Standard Plan. Previously, we used App type
(Standard vs Premium apps) as a way to price our product. We have since learnt that this categorization
is too rigid. When publishing new apps, we find ourselves debating what type of app it is and whether
we should be making new App types. To remove this confusion, we have decided not to price Cloudron based
on the app type anymore.
Free trial
We now have a free trial in place that lets you try any plan for free for a month. You will not be charged
for the duration of the month.
Impact on existing customers
This change has no impact on existing paid users. Existing users will continue to pay
the old subscription price. Existing users will have access to the same set of apps they had
access to before and will be provided the same level of support.
Install or update Cloudron

For those unaware, Cloudron is a platform that makes it easy to run web apps like

SaaS for self-hosted apps.
Cloudron 4.1 adds a new configure UI, customizable app icons, multiple domain redirects,
new app manifest & more.
New configure UI
The various app settings are now grouped into categories:
App Icons
Cloudron 4 added support for setting labels and tags for apps. In 4.1, you can customize the
icon of each app.
Multiple domain redirects
You can now setup one or more domains to redirect to a single app. In the screenshot
below, www.cloudron.dev, site.cloudron.pro and cloudron.xyz will redirect to blog.cloudron.ml.
Manifest v2
We have bumped the app manifest version to 2. The main change is that environment variables injected
by Cloudron into an app's runtime are prefixed with CLOUDRON_. This prevents any conflict with the app's
own environment variables.
Other notable changes
Remove password requirement for uninstalling apps, domains & users
Fix issue where unused addon images were not pruned
Add DigitalOcean Frankfurt (fra1) region for backup storage
Fix name.com DNS backend issue for naked domains
Fix DigitalOcean DNS API to make requests with ttl of 30
Fix DKIM selector conflict when adding same domain across multiple cloudrons

We are happy to announce the release of Cloudron 4!
For those unaware, Cloudron is a platform that makes it easy to run web apps like
WordPress, Nextcloud, GitLab on your server and keep them up-to-date and secure. Think
SaaS for self-hosted apps.
Cloudron 4 adds SFTP access, App labels, Scaleway Object Storage, testing community apps,
easier mail import & more.
SFTP access
Cloudron 4 has a built-in SFTP server that provides access to any application's files.
SFTP login is integrated with Cloudron user management. Admins can use use their Cloudron
password for SFTP access.
Instead of providing SFTP access across all apps, we are enabling it only in the app packages
that makes sense. This is because apps might behave erratically if files are changed behind
their back. For the initial release, WordPress,
LAMP, Surfer
have SFTP access enabled.
SFTP credentials can be obtained from the app information dialog (the i button in the app grid).
Notice that the SFTP username is different for each app.
SFTP service runs at port 222. Cloudron's built-in firewall
already has this port open. If you are unable to connect, please check if the server's Cloud firewall like EC2 security group or DigitalOcean firewall is not blocking that port.
App tags
Cloudron provides a great interface for managing web sites. However, locating an app can be a challenging task
when you have very many WordPress instances! To ease the situation, we have added support for setting a display
label and one or more tags for each app.
Once set, apps can be filtered by domain name and tag.
A future release will add support for customizing the app icon as well.
Scaleway Object Storage
Scaleway Object Storage is an Object Storage service
based on the S3 protocol. Scaleway can be selected as the storage backend for backups:
Easier email import
In previous Cloudron releases, enabling email for a domain required switching over the
mail DNS configuration. This requirement meant a domain couldn't be pre-setup with
mailboxes before going "live".
In Cloudron 4, email can be enabled for a domain and the DNS configuration can be done at
any later time. The rough flow is as follows:
First, add the domain for which you would like to receive email in the Domains view.
Then in the Email view, when enabling mail from the domain, uncheck the Setup Mail DNS records now option.
Create mailboxes. You can also now import email into Cloudron using a tool like imapsync.
Once ready, clicking the Re-setup DNS button in the Email -> Status page to setup the
DNS records and go live.
Read our docs for more detailed instructions on
how to use imapsync to import email.
Unmanaged WordPress
Cloudron's existing WordPress package is targeted at
users who want a managed WordPress installation. The Cloudron team tracks upstream WordPress releases and publishes updates.
Like all other apps, the code in the managed WordPress app is read-only.
We recognize that another big use case for WordPress is to simply serve as a starting point for developing web sites.
To serve this use case, we have published a new app called Unmanaged WordPress. The WordPress code in this package can be viewed
and modified via SFTP. It's important to remember that Cloudron will not update the WordPress code and
one has to use the WordPress built-in updater.
The managed and unmanaged WordPress apps are distinguished by their logos. The former has the blue logo
and the latter has the gray logo.
App Updates
Cloudron used to send a weekly digest mail about app updates. It turns out it is best to
inform admin immediately about app updates to serve as a reminder to double check if the update went smoothly.
For this reason, app update emails are now sent as soon as an app is updated.
A related issue is that depending on the backup retention policy, the backup of the previous app version might
get cleaned up before the admin got to check the app. To remedy this, Cloudron now specifically preserves the backup
that was created before an update for 3 weeks.
Community apps
Cloudron's community has been actively packaging new apps. We have been reluctant to get these apps
published because we haven't had the time to evaluate and test the apps. This has however held back
other users from easily trying out all these new apps. In Cloudron 4, we have added
a mechanism to publish these 'unstable' apps. You can enable listing of unstable apps on your Cloudron
from the settings page.
Other notable changes
Upstream app version is now listed in the app info dialog
Support for email relays that do not require authentication and self-signed certificates
Cloudron updates can now be applied without taking a full backup. This was added for situations where
there might a bug in the backup logic and an upcoming Cloudron update fixes the backup issue.

We are happy to announce the release of Cloudron 3.5!
For those unaware, Cloudron is a platform that makes it easy to run web apps on your
server and keep them up-to-date and secure. Think SaaS for self-hosted apps.
Cloudron 3.5 adds a new
... [More]
Notifications view, paginated users UI, namecheap DNS & more
Notifications view
Cloudron sends email notifications to administrators about various events like when a
user is added/removed, when an app goes down or when an app was restarted because it
ran out of memory. These important notifications sometimes go unnoticed if Cloudron
has issues delivering email.
In 3.5, there is a notification view that shows all the notifications. Notifications
can be left 'unread', to serve as a reminder to deal with the issue later. In the coming
releases, we will enhance this view to remind admins to change an app's default password,
possibly brittle backup policies and security/login alerts.
Namecheap DNS
Namecheap is one of the best domain registrars. We have added DNS integration for Namecheap. To use the Namecheap provider,
generate an API key and
add the Cloudron server's IP to the API whitelist in the Namecheap UI.
Big thanks to Tomer Shvueli for contributing this feature!
Users view
The Cloudron Users view can take a while to load if there are lots of users. To alleviate this,
we have added pagination and search to the user listing.
New S3 regions
The S3 backup backend now supports 3 additional regions:
Osaka
Paris
Stockholm
Other notable changes
Add UI to switch dashboard domain
Fix remote support button to not remove misparsed ssh keys
cloudflare: preseve domain proxying status
Fix issue where oom killer might kill the box code or the updater
Allow full logs to be downloaded
Update Haraka (mail server) to 2.8.22
Log events in the mail container
Fix issue where SpamAssassin and SPF checks were run for outbound email
Improve eventlog messages
Track dynamic DNS change events
Retry errored downloads during restore
